Polynucleotides

Polynucleotides are small fragments of DNA, commonly sourced from purified fish-derived material, that are used in aesthetic medicine to support healthier-looking skin. Plinest is a polynucleotide-based injectable treatment designed to improve skin quality, particularly hydration, elasticity, and the look of fine lines and crepiness.

Here at The PRP Clinic our nursing team will be able to help you decide if this is the right option for you.

In simple terms:  it is a treatment that helps your skin function better, so it can look smoother and more resilient over time.

How does it work?

Plinest is classed as a biostimulator skin treatment. Rather than filling lines or reshaping the face, it is used to support the skin’s repair environment. Over the weeks following treatment, this may translate into improvements in hydration, elasticity, and the look of fine lines.

What it is not

  • Not a replacement for dermal filler if you want volume
  • Not the same as Botox, which treats expression lines by relaxing muscle
  • Not an instant glow treatment, changes build gradually

Treatment course

  • Most patients benefit from 3 sessions, spaced  4 weeks apart.
  • Maintenance is often recommended every 4 to 6 months, depending on you skins need.

Recovery

  • Downtime is usually minimal, with temporary redness, tenderness, small bumps, or mild swelling, particularly under the eyes, typically settling within 24 to 72 hours.
  • Bruising can occur and may last several days, but most patients return to normal activities the same day or the following day.
  • Simple aftercare is advised, including avoiding makeup for 12 hours and strenuous exercise, heat, and alcohol for 72 hours.

Who may be suitable

Want subtle, natural-looking skin improvement
Polynucleotides are ideal if your goal is smoother texture, improved hydration, and healthier-looking skin over time, rather than dramatic or immediate change.

Are noticing early to moderate signs of skin ageing
This includes fine lines, crepey texture, dullness, or loss of elasticity, particularly in delicate areas such as under the eyes, neck, or décolletage.

Prefer gradual results
This treatment works progressively. It suits patients who understand that changes build over weeks to months, rather than appearing instantly.

Have skin that feels fragile, thin, or tired
Polynucleotides are often chosen where the skin needs support and repair rather than volume, especially in areas where traditional fillers may not be appropriate.

Want a treatment that complements other aesthetic procedures
Plinest can often be safely combined with treatments such as botulinum toxin, energy-based devices, or fillers as part of a broader skin health plan, when clinically appropriate.

Are open to a treatment course and maintenance
Best outcomes typically come from a short course of sessions, followed by maintenance treatments tailored to your skin and lifestyle.

Who may be unsuitable

Are pregnant or breastfeeding
Injectable aesthetic treatments are generally avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding due to limited safety data.

Have an active skin infection or inflammation in the treatment area
This includes active acne, eczema flare-ups, cold sores, or skin infections. Treatment can usually be considered once the skin has fully healed.

Have certain autoimmune or inflammatory conditions
Some immune-related conditions or medications may affect how your body responds to treatment. These cases require careful clinician assessment and, in some situations, medical clearance.

Have a known allergy or sensitivity relevant to the product
Polynucleotides are often derived from fish DNA. A known fish allergy or significant sensitivity must be discussed in detail so suitability can be assessed safely.

Are prone to significant or prolonged swelling
Some individuals, particularly in delicate areas such as under the eyes, may be more likely to experience swelling. This does not automatically exclude treatment, but may influence product choice, dosing, or area selection.

Expect immediate or dramatic results
If your primary goal is instant volume, lifting, or reshaping, alternative treatments may be more appropriate. Polynucleotides are not designed to replace dermal fillers or lifting procedures.
